Dr Leornado Mataruna is now an honorary member of the Instituto de Investigación Olímpica (Olympic Investigation Institute), an agency affiliated with the Mexican Olympic Academy and Olympic Committee of Mexico. The research centre based at the Universidad de Occident, Mexico, is chaired by prof. Dr Hussein Muñoz Helú, rector of the institution.

Through this institute the university seeks to promote the Olympic movement through its sport and generate intervention programs in areas with high risk of social marginalization, to use sport as an agent of integration.
